TRIO Greater Cleveland has offered this award since the passing of Samuel C. Jones in 2010. Sam was a double lung transplant recipient greater than 10 years & dedicated his life to serving those touched by the gift of transplantation. He was a Transplant Center Liaison for Second Wind Lung Transplant Association, member of "EFFORTS" emphysema support group & Second Chance Lung Transplant Support Group, volunteer for the Cleveland Clinic Lung Transplant Department, TRIO Greater Cleveland Board of Directors, and earned the highest award as a Lifebanc volunteer in 2009, "Life Preserver of the Year".
Sam's one of a kind quiet demeanor and gentle spirit was appreciated and admired by all who knew him. As a result, this award was created to represent Sam's efforts and inspirational contributions to our transplant community. Recipients of the "Breath of Life" Award exemplify Sam's dedication to those touched by the gift of transplantation, awareness around organ, eye, and tissue donation and transplantation, and support provided to TRIO Greater Cleveland's mission and values.
Thank you Sam and congratulations to the recipients of his memorial reward.

Born with liver disease, Mike barely survived childhood, when at the age of 13 he received his donor's liver. Within three weeks, he was back at school running track and playing baseball. He also loved football, lifting weights, riding motorcycles, and Ohio State University where he eventually attended. But just six days before graduation from OSU, Mike was killed in a tragic motorcycle accident. He donated his heart, lungs, corneas, skin, tendons, ligaments, and long bones. His mom, Lynda, shares "I thank God every day for loaning him to me for 22 years. He taught me so many lessons. I try to live my life as he did. Passionate. Selfless. And with no regrets".
Unfortunately, this grant is no longer available, but we'd like to acknowledge the recipients of this educational support through the efforts and contributions of Mike's family and friends. Thank you all for making this opportunity possible for so many and congratulations to the following scholarship recipients!
